Sign up with the search engines’ various PPC programs. Decide a budget. Do keyword research and write your ads. Link to your affiliate URL. Click. Save. Now you can have all the traffic you can pay for.

We are sold this strategy over and over again. It’s a good strategy, and it works.

The problem? With pay per click, you pay for your mistakes, sometimes heavily!

3. Look at your long term goals.

I love free traffic. Not like. Love.

The great advantage to the free traffic I prefer is the exposure it gives not just to the product, but to you.

If you expect to be in business for a long time (and maybe you don’t!), then plan on developing your profile as an expert in your niche.

The big “take away” from this article, if there is one, is that traffic is not just a question to grapple with today.

It’s a problem for tomorrow, and next year.

You’ve got to wonder: “Why am I doing this? What do I expect from my business? What goal will I have to reach for me to feel successful?”

Articles and forums are the places where you start to market not just your product, but you, the marketer.

There people get to meet you, so to speak. They feel you out and decide whether you are trustworthy.

A PPC ad cannot do that for you. Not unless you are building a subscription list with that ad– and that’s a whole other subject!

But… articles and forums are not quick. It can take quite a bit of time and work to get established as a niche expert.
